TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- Surveillance video captured the suspect who made off with thousands of dollars in merchandise from Calhoun's Jewelers.

One employee who works the front desk saw the video and she knew she'd seen the man before. When she first met him, she says the man goes by "Marcus."She wishes for her name not to be released for safety reasons.

She said the suspect has been inside Calhoun's twice before, once before Christmas and the other time before New Year's. She says he seemed like a decent man who didn't give off any bad vibes.

However, when he returned around 11:30 Wednesday morning on January 2nd, another sales associate had a much different encounter. Store owner, Kurt Calhoun, says his employee showed the man four sets of earrings.

Then, "Marcus" grabbed the case of jewelry and bolted out the door past Paisano's restaurant. Kurt Calhoun chased after him, but wasn't able to see how he escaped. He assumes he got away in a vehicle.

The surveillance video shows a 6'3'' black man, in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing a red fleece sweater and sunglasses.

The four sets of earrings were 1 karat, 1/2 karat, 2 karat and 1/3 karat. Calhoun's is offering a $1,500 reward for the arrest of the suspect and return of the jewelry.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers 234-0007.
