Rain heavy at times will move across northeast Kansas this afternoon and tonight that could lead to flooding. Severe storms are also possible through this evening with 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters.
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities say a young mother who ran away with her infant son has been found safe in Kansas City, Kansas.
16-year-old Heather Dawn Zeferjohn and her 9-month-old son, Julian, took off early Thursday morning from the 6600 block of SW Crestwood in Topeka. Family was especially concerned because the infant has a medical condition. The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says both were found around 4 pm Friday by the Kansas City, KS Police Department. Both were safe and unharmed.
The Sheriff's Office says KCK police was taking the mother and child to a juvenile center for screening and further assessment.
The Sheriff’s Office says tips from the public provided the information that led them to the teen.
Authorities did not say whether Zeferjohn and her child were with a 16-year-old male they were seen leaving with Thursday.
