DERBY, Kan. (KAKE)-- A 17-year-old boy is dead following a crash east of Derby.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 95th Street South and Greenwich. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said a red Dodge was traveling northbound on Greenwich approaching the intersection of 95th. The driver later told deputies that he became distracted by his passenger and ran the stop sign, and collided with a Chrysler Sebring.
A 17-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Dodge died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He's been identified as 17-year-old Clayton R. Akers-Matzen of Wichita.
The driver of the Dodge, 18-year-old Jeshua J. Pence of Derby, was taken to a Wichita hospital with possible serious injures.
The 27-year-old driver of the Chrysler, 27-year-old Tyler J. Frakes of Douglass suffered minor injuries.
