TPD Names Officers Of The Year

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Police Department honored outstanding employees Wednesday.

Chief Ron Miller presented the department's annual awards ahead of his quarterly crime meeting.

Officer Jeralyn Wheeles was recognized as the 2012 Officer of the Year for her work in the narcotics unit. The Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year award was given to Shawn Kimble for his work.

The 2012 Civilian Employee of the Year award was given to Ben Clay for his efforts as the department's volunteer coordinator.

The Chief also thanked officers for their volunteer work with Special Olympics, including this Saturday's Polar Plunge and 5K Strut at Lake Shawnee.
