TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The suspect who was shot by a Shawnee Co. Sheriff's deputy earlier this week was booked into jail Thursday morning. Bond for Gary Keith Davis was set at $1,000,000.

The Dept. of Corrections listed Davis as an absconder after he failed to check in with his parole officer in mid-February following a theft conviction. He has also served time for domestic battery, forgery, and attempted burglary.

He was hit in the leg and his injuries were described as non-life threatening injuries. Lt. Chuck Haggard said the suspect's identity would not be released Monday night.

Undersheriff Terry Maple said the suspect was hiding in a home at Caravan Mobile Park, near the intersection of NW Highway 24 and Kansas Ave., while officers executing a high-risk felony warrant, searched it around 1:15 p.m. They were working with the Federal Fugitive Task Force.

Undersheriff Terry Maple said the shooting may have been accidental, however, that could not be known for sure until an investigation is complete.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy, Maple said. In addition, since a deputy was involved in the shooting, Sheriff Herman Jones has asked the Topeka Police Dept. to investigate the incident.
