JEFFERSON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW)-- A suspect's vehicle went up in smoke following a multi county chase in Shawnee and Jefferson Counties Tuesday morning.
The chase started near 8th and Seward around 8:30 a.m. Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers attempted to stop a truck because the vehicle's tags were covered and unreadable The driver sped away.
The chase passed through Perry, where schools were placed on lock down as a precautionary measure to keep students safe.
The suspect then led troopers through farm fields in Jefferson County before his truck began smoking and stalled near the Douglas County line.
The suspect was checked out by AMR before being taken in to custody by authorities.
