Suspect Caught After Hit And Run Injures 2 Workers

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two tree-trimming workers suffered non-life threatening injuries after a hit and run accident in Topeka on Tuesday afternoon.

A call came in for the accident at 45th and West Edge Road shortly before 1:15 p.m.

A red Honda CRV was traveling eastbound when it struck two tree-trimming workers. The vehicle continued traveling eastbound before being stopped by sheriff's deputies.

The adult male suspect in the hit and run was stopped near 45th and Shawnee Heights Road within a few minutes of the accident. He was taken into custody and is being investigated for failure to maintain a single lane, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

The two workers were transported to Stormont-Vail hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation. The Shawnee County Sheriff Dept., Kansas Highway Patrol, Shawnee Heights Fire Dept., and AMR all responded to the accident.
