LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – A 38 year-old woman will face first-degree murder charges following a Lawrence slaying over the weekend, according to the Lawrence Police Dept. The suspect, Angelica Kulp, was already being held in on unrelated charges in Shawnee Co. Jail.
On Thursday, the Douglas Co. District Attorney Office issued an arrest warrant for first degree murder, police said. Kulp, though, will remain in Shawnee Co. Jail until she's faced theft and burglary charges there before being transported to Douglas Co.
She is suspected of killing 56 year-old Christine Kaplan, who was found inside her home, 1117 New York Street, on Saturday morning. Her autopsy was Saturday night and crime scene investigators were processing evidence from the home until Tuesday.
They said Kaplan's death appeared to be suspicious and their investigation zeroed in on a Kulp, who possible lived at the home previously. They found her already in jail in Shawnee Co. and interviewed her there. Those conversations and the other evidence collected so far were then handed over to the Douglas Co. DA's Office.
