Officers first encountered the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Kajun Daniel Brock, with a stalled vehicle at 2000 Southeast Rice Road.
When officers approached Brock, he ran and jumped into a van and fled the scene.
Officers followed the van and a chase began.
The chase lasted less than 10 minutes but led police through a number of side streets on the city's east side. Speeds reached 60-70 mph according to a sergeant on scene Thursday.
Brock bailed from the van near 6th and Woodland and ran from police on foot before being caught. He was taken to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
No injuries were reported, but police said one officer was put in danger as the suspect vehicle swerved toward a patrol vehicle.
Police said the van in the chase was not stolen, but was not registered. They are investigating where the van came from.
Police were investigating the situation Thursday afternoon. No further details were immediately released.
