"Substandard" Topeka Roundabout Replaced In A Week

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Road crews had to re-do part of a roundabout project.

Shawnee Co. Public Works Director Tom Vlach says an inspection found sub-standard workmanship on the new curbing and gutters at Northwest 46th and Topeka Boulevard.

He says the companies involved tore it out and replaced it last week at their expense.

He said Sunflower Paving from Lawrence subcontracted the job from Schmidtlein Excavating. Vlach estimated the cost at $98,000.

He said it shouldn't delay the expected July 31st reopening of the inspection.
