TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - How do people around the world stay healthy? Students with the Youth Volunteer Corps tackled that question this Saturday.
They hosted an International Day of Healthy Living and showed Topekans, it's easy to be healthy.
Volunteers dished up goodies they made themselves, from around they world, including Bierock, a beef and cabbage pastry from Germany, Salsa from Mexico and spicy cereal from India. Every bite-sized sample came with an easy to follow recipe.
"We're trying to help kids, the youth of Topeka, to learn to be healthy, because today is all fast food," Jennifer Wessel, a member of the YVC Youth Advisory Council, said. "You don't have time to do anything, but all of these foods are quick to make," she said.
Students also got active playing sports popular around the world to encourage families to eat healthy and play healthy.
The YVC is sponsored and supported by the United Way of Greater Topeka.
