Students Do Some Heavy Lifting For The Hungry

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Students at Christ the King Elementary didn't mind doing some heavy lifting in their efforts to fight hunger.

They filled two truckloads with canned goods and dry food and donated it all to the Project Topeka Community Food Drive. Project Topeka organizers say students' enthusiasm helps them replenish local food banks every year.

The school held a little friendly competition to see which class could collect the most cans.

During math lessons students determined which class had the highest average. Third-graders came out on top and earned some extra recess time.
