Student Leaders Lobby For Higher Education Day

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Student leaders from KU, K-State, Emporia State, Pittsburgh state, Fort Hays and Wichita State went to the Capitol Monday to express views with Kansas legislatures.

Students covered important topics, such as funding for higher education, concealed carry on campus, and undocumented students receiving in-state tuition.

They are grateful they had the opportunity for their voices to be heard.

"I think it's great for us to get hands-on experience and it's great for a student government. We get an opportunity to do a lot of different things, but this is the real deal. This is prime time for us," said Wichita State student Senator. Brandon James.

"It's a really great group of people and you know we may not agree on everything but at the end of the day we are all Kansans," said Fort Hays class president, Kyle Calvin.

Students say that Higher Education Day was an overall success and they look forward to meeting with the legislatures next year.
