LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – An investigation into a shooting south of Lawrence shut down a stretch of U.S. 59 for several hours, according to the Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office. Authorities rerouted southbound traffic starting at N 1000 Road all the way to the N 650 exit onto Old U.S. 59.
UPDATE: The road reopened shortly after 4:00 p.m.
The Sheriff's Office said its deputies are searching for evidence from a late night shooting along the highway Monday night. A Lawrence man was shot while driving in the area around 11:00 p.m. He was taken via helicopter to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment.
The Sheriff's Office indicated it had no information about the suspects or vehicle involved in the shooting. Anyone with such information is asked to call the Douglas Co. Sheriff's Officer at 785-841-0007 or CrimeStoppers at 785-843-8477.
