TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Wildlife staffers hope to get more folks hooked on fishing.
More than 200 trout were released Thursday morning into Ward-Martin Creek in Auburndale Park. Crews from Shawnee County Parks and Rec and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism did the honors.
The stocking is part of the state's Community Fisheries Assistance program. Officials say they want to provide fishing opportunities in higher-population areas.
Trout stocking is done each month, October through March.
A special trout stamp is required to fish for trout at Auburndale Park. People can get them at the KDWPT Region 2 Office, 300 SW Wanamaker Road, or from fishing license vendors. Fishing licenses are required for people aged 16 to 64.
