Statehouse Mural Artist's Sketches On Display At Mulvane Art Museum

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- Sketches of the murals in the Kansas statehouse are on display in an exhibit through February.

John Steuart Curry painted two murals that are on the statehouse's 2nd floor. The sketches of those murals are on display at Washburn University's Mulvane Art Museum at 1700 SW College Avenue.

The exhibit takes guests through Curry's preparation in painting the murals, one of which depicts famed abolitionist John Brown.

Don Lambert will perform on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

Visiting Curator Julia Myers will present her lecture Controversy and Compromise: John Steuart Curry's Kansas Capitol Murals on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

The works are on loan from the Kansas Museum of History's collection. It is supported in part by the Center for Kansas Studies at Washburn University.
