TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A familiar face around the Statehouse is bringing an end to an "uplifting" career.

People who've ridden the old-fashioned cage elevator in the Capitol building have likely met Eleanor Adame. The friendly face who takes people up and down is retiring. Her last day is Friday, Dec. 7.

Adame started with the state back in 1976 as a custodial worker. In 1993, she was assigned to the Capitol to work the elevator. She calls the position the best job she worked for the state.

Statehouse staffers hosted a reception for Adame Monday. Several lawmakers at the Capitol for leadership elections stopped to wish her well. A certificate honoring her proclaimed, "It's been a good ride!"

She now hopes to spend more time with her five children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
