State Seizes 10 Taco Tico Locations For Unpaid Sales Tax

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas Revenue officials shut down 10 Taco Tico locations around the state, including one in Topeka.

Revenue Department spokesperson Jeannine Koranda says agents from the Revenue Department and Alcoholic Beverage Control conducted the seizures at 10 am Tuesday.

Koranda says the locations are operated by Wichita-based Ajax International Group, owned by Mohmood Karim. He's accused of failing to pay nearly $435,000 in retail sales tax from June 2011 to October 2012. Koranda says the warrants were filed in Sedgwick County. The first covers a period from June to Sept. 2011 when the Revenue Department says unpaid sales tax totaled $73,315.94. The second warrant is for Oct. 2011 to Oct. 2012 and is for $361,623.29.

The Topeka Taco Tico location affected is at 2102 NW Topeka Blvd. Other locations seized are in Wichita, Derby, Arkansas City and Dodge City.

The state will sell the restaurants' assets at auction at a later date.
