TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A standoff in an east Topeka neighborhood ended in a suicide.
The Topeka Police Department's special response team and negotiators responded around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night to a home in the 900-block of SE Wear Avenue.
Authorities say an armed man making suicidal threats refused to come out of the house.
When officers arrived, the man fired shots from inside the house through the window, but didn't hit anyone, according to TPD spokeswoman Kristen Veverka.
She said the man later shot himself and was transported to a local hospital by AMR. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"No shots were fired by TPD officers during this standoff," Veverka said.
Officers remained on the scene until 2 a.m.
