TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - St. Francis Health Center showed off the new look for its space that helps its tiniest patients.

The hospital's state-of-the-art Level 2 neo-natal intensive care unit received a blessing Wednesday to mark completion of its renovations.

The expansion was made possible by a $300,000 donation from Children's Miracle Network hospitals. The renovations include an upgrade to five Level 2 beds, with new cardio-respiratory monitors and a "refresh" of the well-baby nursery.

Hospital officials say the upgrades allow them to keep more the youngest patients at their hospital rather than having to transfer them elsewhere.

The St. Francis NICU is staffed by a team of pediatric hospitalists, respiratory therapists and more who can help meet the needs of late-preterm and term infants.
