Speaker Merrick Files For Re-Election

TOPEKA, Kan. (Release)— House Speaker Ray Merrick, Republican from Stilwell, filed for re-election to Kansas’ 27th House District Friday.

Speaker Merrick has represented the southern Johnson County 27th district since 2000, with a brief time in the Kansas Senate from 2011-2012. Last year he was voted by the Republican caucus to serve as Speaker.

“It has been an honor to serve the people in and around Stilwell for 14 years, and an honor to serve as this chamber’s leader.” Speaker Merrick said. “I look forward to returning next year to continue leading with pro-growth policies that will make Kansas a wonderful place to live.”

Speaker Merrick currently serves on a number of national boards and committees, including GOPAC, ALEC, SLLF, The National Speaker’s Conference, and the Canadian-US Relations Committee with Council of State Governments.

Merrick and his wife Phyllis have been married for more than 40 years, have two sons and two grandchildren.
