TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Several sources are telling 13News the Topeka teen who's gained national attention for videotaping his run-ins with law enforcement was cited on drug charges.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says that around 7:00 p.m. Thursday night, a driver reported two people in their car in this area, along the turnpike by the Adams Street bridge, who were making rude gesture at passing motorists.
When a trooper pulled up behind the vehicle, two kids jumped out, ran onto Adams and split up. The trooper caught one of them, the other was identified through items left in the vehicle.
Also found in the car, a marijuana cigarette plus other drugs and drug paraphernalia. KHP says two 17 year-olds received juvenile citations and were released to their parents.
KHP would not tell us their names because of their ages, but several sources tell us one of them was Addison Mikkelson, who was convicted Monday of inattentive driving and jaywalking.
Mikkelson declined comment when reached Friday, but a Facebook post on his page around 1:00 a.m. said, "everyone has made mistakes in their lives and boy has this been the biggest mistake I've ever made."
