TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Authorities have charged a suspect in relation to the shooting that took place Thursday night at a Topeka apartment complex.

Captain Brian Desch tells 13 News that 37-year-old Shiek Imtiaz Azeez, the alleged shooter, has been charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder after police found a woman shot multiple times Thursday evening inside the Overlook Apartments at 1306 SW Summit Woods Dr. The two are listed as spouses and were living together at the Overlook.

Police also say there was a child of the victim's in the apartment. It is a step-child of Azeez.

Topeka Police believe the incident to be domestic, and are not releasing the victim's name.

Azeez's bond is set at $500,000.

Topeka Police responded just after 8 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the complex, west of Huntoon and Wanamaker. When officers arrived they found one woman shot multiple times and suffering from life threatening injuries. She was rushed to Stormont-Vail Hospital and her condition was made stable.

Police identified Azeez as a person of interest. TPD officers and K9 units along with the Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter assisted in locating Azeez in the apartment complex. He was detained at the scene and taken into custody.

Overlook management said their first priority is taking care of resident needs. They said they have not received any more details from police, and once they do, they will send out a letter to Overlook residents about the incident.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this crime or any crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
