TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Multi-vehicle accidents had both the K-4 Oakland Expressway and Hwy. 75 Westgate bridges shut down Thursday night, along with a portion of I-70 thru downtown Topeka.

Freezing drizzle began sparking the spinoffs just after 9 pm Thursday.

At the K-4 Oakland Expressway bridge, between I-70 and Hwy. 24 east of Topeka, authorities reported at least four or five vehicles involved in an accident. Emergency crews were closing off access to the bridge while they worked the accident.

The situation was similar at the Hwy. 75 Westgate bridge. Authorities closed it as well while crews worked to clear vehicles. However, scanner traffic indicated extremely slick conditions that were proving problematic even for some of those responding.

Just after 10:30 pm, I-70 near 3rd St. in downtown Topeka became the latest stretch of road to see a multi-vehicle accident. Westbound lanes of the highway were closed while crews worked that scene. Authorities said seven vehicles were involved.

One person was taken by ambulance from the I-70 accident scene with minor injuries. Reports of injuries from any of the other accidents were not available.

KDOT crews had been alerted to treat the bridges.

I-70 was reopen to westbound traffic around Midnight. Minutes later, Highway 75 was also open.

Topeka Police went into Phase III accident reporting status at 9:30 pm Thursday. The action meant they would respond only to injury, hit and run and accidents with disabling vehicle damage. People involved in all other accidents should report them to police headquarters at their earliest convenience.

Accident reports from TPD and Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office:
9:16 pm - I470 Hwy / S75 Hwy: multi-vehicle injury accident
9:23 pm - 3330 Oakland Expressway

10:17 pm - Hwy 75 & Hwy 24: multicar accident, one roll over

*Additional rollovers and slideoffs were being indicated via scanner late Thursday in these same areas
