Singing Custodian Gives Farewell Performance

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Wednesday was the last time for what's become an end-of-year tradition at Topeka's Whitson Elementary School.

Since 2004, the school's janitor Jim Knowland has seranaded the students with "school's Out for Summer!"

Jim's retiring, so this year, he donned a cap and gown and had the fifth graders join the performance, since theyr'e graduating from the song, just as he is.

Jim started working for the USD 501 in the 70s to pay his way through college, but by the time he earned two degrees, he was enjoying it and doing well, so he decided to stay.
