EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Scores of new jobs are coming to Emporia. On Wednesday, Simmons Pet Food, Inc. said it would add more than 50 and up to 80 new jobs to its processing plant there before the end of the year.
“The additional production in Emporia will position us to support all of our customer’s needs for the next few years as well as give us room to grow with new customers," said David Jackson, Simmons Pet Food president.
The new line is expected to push their production capabilities to over 240 million cans per year. Simmons says it is the leading supplier of custom and private label pet food solutions in the U.S. and Canada.
“The City of Emporia is excited to hear the news about the expansion at Simmons Pet Food. We look forward to a continued partnership in the future.” stated Mayor Jon Geitz.
Kent Heermann, President of the Regional Development Association of East Central, said this is the second expansion for the company in just over a year. A new production line in the first quarter of last year added more than 30 full-time positions.
He also explained that Simmons received a half-million dollar economic development grant from the Kansas Dept. of Transportation to pay for most of the paving of Warren Way, which he said would provide better access for Park III tenants.
