Silverbackks host extra special Christmas dinner

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- It was a special supper for kids at the Garfield Community Center Wednesday.

Silverbackks Silversupper hosted its first ever Christmas Party. Silversupper gives out meals four days a week to kids at the Garfield Community Center. The program started in March and organizers say it’s been a success.

Lead Volunteer Sara Chinn says that they have been reminding kids of the event and the big turnout shows that the program is making a difference in the community.

Santa showed up and goodies and presents were handed out.

Chinn says the program not only supports kids in daily life, but it can also teach them about giving back.

“We love to have kids come in and help serve because it really gives them the chance to give back and see what they can do to help the community out,” said Chinn. “Even as young as three-years-old can help hand out bags of chips.”
