TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office has cancelled a Silver Alert Thursday night for a Scranton man.
After missing for more than six hours, 70-year-old Robert Hinkle was found in Southwest Topeka unharmed.
The Sheriff's Office says Hinkle was last seen around 2:30 pm Thursday in the parking lot of the Walmart on Wanamaker Rd. Family members say Hinkle suffers from brain tumors, which may impair his memory, balance and coordination. They told authorities the brain tumors cause a serious mental condition that reduce his ability to make sound decisions and could diminish his ability to survive without assistance.
Due to his medical condition, Hinkle isn't supposed to drive, but authorities say he rode with a family member to the store and stayed in the truck while the family member shopped. When the person returned, they discovered Hinkle and the truck were gone.
Authorities say Hinkle left the Walmart driving a gray or pewter colored 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup with a black topper, Kansas license tag 566BMK. The truck also has a Dale Ernhart #3 front vanity plate as well as #3 and #88 racing stickers on the back window of the topper.
Hinkle is 5'9", 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. His family says he's known to frequent the Four Corners area, near Hwys. 75 and 56 in Osage County.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office at 785-368-2366.
