TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office wants to warn you about a new scam making its way around northeast Kansas.
Callers claiming to be Westar Energy employees say they are trying to collect on past due accounts. The caller allegedly requests that customers provide financial information or buy a prepaid money card to pay for the past due bills.
The caller then says that if the bill isn't paid Westar will disconnect their services.
Westar Energy said their customers can call them to verify information.
If you believe you are the victim of the scam or any other scam, call the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office at 785-251-2200.
