TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- A Topeka teenager who suddenly fell victim to a virus passed away Wednesday night.
15-year-old Lexie Salmon just ended her sophomore year at Shawnee Heights High School and was waiting for a liver transplant. Doctors found a virus was attacking Lexie's body, impacting several organs and destroying her liver.
The following was posted to the 'Lexie Salmo- Her Fight is Our Fight' Facebook page Thursday morning:
"It is with a heavy heart that I tell you all Lexie passed away last night. How can I tell you all what a great support you have been. Countless people dropped everything and prayed hard for so many aspects of Lexie's needs and those of her family. They still need you. This is the worst kind if grief. They have the joy of knowing exactly where Lexie is. She is with Jesus and they will see her again. What a glorious hope we have in Him. However, the loss here and now is paralyzing for so many who knew and loved her. Please pray."
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Family and friends are asking for support for a teenager who needs a liver transplant.
15-year-old Lexie Salmon just ended her sophomore year at Shawnee Heights High School.
Her aunt Jackie tells 13 News that Lexie was rushed to Children's Mercy last Wednesday, May 29. She said Lexie missed the end of the school year when she was hospitalized in Topeka for an allergic reaction to nuts. She says Lexie was released from the hospital, but, days later, fell ill.
Once Lexie arrived at Children's Mercy, her aunt says doctors found a virus was attacking Lexie's body, impacting several organs and destroying her liver.
Jackie says doctors are stabilizing Lexie's condition so she can be eligible for the life-saving transplant.
Friends are selling t-shirts and window decals to help the family with expenses through a Facebook page. It's titled "Lexie Salmon - Her Fight Is Our Fight." Contributions can be made by contacting the family through the page. Jackie says they are in the process of arranging a fund through a local bank as well.
