TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Shawnee County Treasurer Larry Mah says he needs to hire workers now.
Mah asked County Commissioners at their meeting Thursday morning for approval to hire temporary workers until he can fill the three permanent positions he has open.
He says it will save money to hire a temp at $14 an hour since he's been paying $20 an hour for employees to work overtime.
Mah says it takes about two months to fill a vacancy because of training, and in the meantime temps can help cut down on mail traffic, web renewals and free up permanent employees to work the lines at the front desk.
Commissioners approved Mah's request.
