TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A long-time Shawnee County official made an emotional announcement to commissioners Thursday.
Shawnee County Register of Deeds Marilyn Nichols announced her resignation effective May 31.
The 63-year-old served more than 16 years in the position.
She says the reasons behind her resignation are extremely personal.
" Some family health related issues and whatnot, so I have not taken this decision lightly," Nichols said. "I just ran a campaign...as you know!"
Nichols hopes her successor continues the integrity of the office.
