TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Instead of closing Wednesday as first announced, the fate of Forbes Golf Course is in the hands of Shawnee County Commissioners.
Parks and Recreation Director John Knight plans to ask commissioners Thursday to approve a contract extension for the course.
In a letter to the commissioners, Knight wrote Lake Shawnee Golf Management is looking to operate the clubhouse and play at Forbes Golf Course through June 30, 2014.
The extension will provide additional time to explore partnerships, review existing fees and explore reducing maintenance standards for the course.
Lake Shawnee Golf Management was hired to manage the clubhouse and play at the golf course through December 31, 2013. They're also under contract for the same services at Lake Shawnee and Cypress Ridge Golf Courses.
Knight states there are sufficient funds in the Parks and Recreation budget for the extension.
