Shawnee County Commissioners Get A Earful On Regional Health Concerns

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Shawnee County Commissioners got a checkup on the county's health Thursday.

The county's Health Agency detailed initial findings of the community health needs assessment. The findings mirror those of a report that came out Wednesday, which ranked Shawnee County as 70th in the state for health.

Both the assessment and the national report identified issues such as adult obesity, infant mortality and the lack of health care coverage for many Kansans.

The agency must conduct the study to achieve national accreditation and for Topeka's hospitals to maintain nonprofit status. Full findings will be released in April.
