Sentencing Set For Mom Accused Of Binding Kids At Walmart

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ Sentencing is scheduled for a suburban Chicago woman whose children were found bound and blindfolded in a Walmart parking lot in Kansas.

Deborah Gomez of Northlake, Ill., pleaded no contest in December to three counts of child endangerment. Her husband, Adolfo Gomez, has also pleaded no contest to two counts of felony child abuse and three misdemeanor counts of child endangerment.

Both parents have been in custody since they were arrested June 13, 2012, after a woman at a Lawrence Walmart reported seeing two children bound and blindfolded near the family's vehicle.

Prosecutors have recommended a year of probation for Deborah Gomez, who's scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday afternoon in Douglas County.

Sentencing for Adolfo Gomez is set for next month.
