Seniors Seek Out Health Fair For Answers

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Senior Health Fair and Symposium at Washburn University Sunday gave seniors and caregivers the chance to meet with a host of service providers all in one location at White Concert Hall.

A symposium allowed them to hear experts discuss everything from financial and legal planning to evaluating living options.

The event is the brainchild of Bob Faught, who says it's a way to empower seniors and their families.

"We knew in talking to seniors that they had no idea about the support that was available," Faught said. "There was a void there and there needed to be some vehicle to bring it to the public. So we did."

"Having all of the purveyors in one place makes it easy to compare and to walk and see what their services are. It's easier than visiting each one individually," fair attendee Helen Waldes said. She said she was approaching 65 and looking to learn more about Medicare and services available to seniors.

Organizers are planning to publish a senior support resource directory in November.
Faught says he hopes to hold the event every six months.
