Senior Non-commissioned Officer Charged In Child Porn Sting

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Fort Riley soldier is in trouble with the law after police say he was caught downloading and sharing pornographic files of children on his home computer.

Sergeant First Class Dustin Heckman, 37, was arrested at his Junction City apartment Wednesday afternoon and charged with Possessing/Distributing Child Pornography.

According to Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown, his detectives developed information on Heckman through computer analysis that he was downloading sexually explicit images of children on his computer from the internet and also distributing the files to other people online.

Chief Brown says the Junction City Police Department is now part of the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, allowing investigators to track anyone who uses certain file sharing software to access, store and swap material featuring minors on their computers.

Brown tells 13 News that the probe into Heckman’s online activities is one of the first cases investigated by the task force in Junction City.

A search warrant was conducted at Heckman’s apartment at 1810 Caroline Avenue in Junction City, the address for The Bluffs complex, and the chief says officers confiscated three of his computers and found illegal images on one of the computers.

An analysis of Heckman’s computers is still underway, according to police, and the chief says the number of pornographic files is still being calculated. Brown says Heckman could face more charges because each file that is found could lead to a separate criminal charge.

A Public Affairs specialist with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, confirmed that Sergeant First Class Heckman is assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley as a Telecommunication Operations Chief. He arrived at Fort Riley in November, 2010 and joined the Army in August, 1992

Heckman is currently being held in the Geary County Jail.
