Sen. Pat Roberts Calls For Examination Of USDA's Rules For School Snacks

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Pat Roberts wants a change to the School Lunch and Breakfast Program because it is leaving kids hungry at the end of the school day.

Roberts wants to prevent the problems with the meal program and said: "We want to ensure students have access to foods that help them thrive."

He is calling on Kansans to examine the USDA's rules for school snacks and drinks, which could affect what kids can buy in vending machines and at lunch.

The USDA opened a 60-day period in which people can review the rules and give comments.

Roberts is also concerned about how much food schools are wasting and the costs of new meal programs.
