Royals Welcome Back Veterans on Memorial Day

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 23, 2014)- As the Kansas City Royals return home to host the Houston Astros in a short, three-game homestand, they will join Major League Baseball in saluting veterans on Memorial Day. On Tuesday, the Royals will invite a child from Dream Factory to come and watch batting practice from the dugout. In addition, Royals Charities will host a 50/50 Raffle, presented by Edelman & Thompson, each game throughout the 2014 season. Please see below for more information.

Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 – Houston Astros vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

· Welcome Back Veterans – The Royals, together with Major League Baseball Charities, Major League Baseball Advanced Media and the McCormick Foundation, support Welcome Back Veterans, an initiative designed to raise awareness and provide support for our veterans as they transition back to civilian life. On the field, both the Royals and Astros will wear special camouflage caps and jerseys to honor veterans. Fans can purchase their own camouflage cap or jersey by visiting www.welcomebackveterans.org, and MLB and MLB Advanced Media will donate 100 percent of net proceeds from sales to the organization. In addition, the caps and jerseys worn by the Royals on Memorial Day will be available for purchase at the Royals Authentics store at Kauffman Stadium beginning on Tuesday.

· Honor Flight Check Presentation – Royals Charities is proud to support Heartland Honor Flight with a $5,000 grant. A pre-game check presentation will take place on field with World War II veterans during the Armed Forces Day celebration. Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created to honor America’s veterans for their sacrifices by transporting heroes to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials.

Tuesday, May 27 – Houston Astros vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

· Dream Factory – Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Wednesday, May 28 – Houston Astros vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.
