TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - You might call it "Martha Stewart on ice!"
Topeka RoadRunners hockey players got in touch with their artistic sides Wednesday, hand-painting Christmas ornaments.
Their creations will be for sale at their home games next Friday and Saturday, December 14th and 15th. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Greater Topeka.
Player Kyle Sharkey says he and his teammates were happy to help a great cause. He did joke that they weren't as artistic as they perhaps first thought, but they hope people like what they did.
Joe Clark, Topeka RoadRunners Director of Operations, says the team needs to be involved with community projects, especially since all it takes is their time. He says it's important to show they really mean it when they say they want to be a part of Topeka.
RoadRunners players also volunteered answering phones Wednesday evening on WIBW-TV, as part of an adopt-a-thon call-in for the United Way's Christmas Bureau.
