Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka artist and author, Esther Luttrell, has been selected as the Riverfront Station 802 January Artists of the month in the Noto Arts District.

Luttrell, best known for her novels, has been painting since she had a dream Thanksgiving week, 1989. In that dream, a voice of authority told her she would paint the next day. With no prior interest in art, and no training or experience, she followed the directive.

Within the first year, she became a member of the National Trust for Historical Art Preservation, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Society of Western Artists, the Hollywood Arts Council, the American Council on the Arts, and a Smithsonian Associate.

Residing at that time in a beach community outside Los Angeles, her paintings were popular in galleries throughout California.

Relocating to Topeka, Kansas in 2003, she has served on the board of the Topeka Arts Council, but more recently turned her attention to writing mystery novels and touring the country with them.

Her latest, Invitation to a Murder, is set in Topeka. "A sort of Valentine to my adopted city," she explains.

The book is available, along with her paintings, at the Riverfront Station 802 Kansas Avenue during the month of January. She is donating a portion of her sales to Midland Care Hospice.
