TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka residents got a new look at the Kansas Avenue Project.
The city hosted an open house Wednesday afternoon at Architect One.
Phase one of the project will begin in mid-April. At that time, crews will begin to demolish everything on the east side of Kansas Avenue between 6th and 10th streets.
The project will include enhancements to the downtown community such as pocket parks, pavilions and arches in every block.
Vince Frye, CEO of Downtown Topeka Inc., says he wants Kansas Avenue to become a destination spot.
"We want this to be a place where people can come walk, bring their friends, and just spend time," said Frye. "We want to tell this history of who we are as a community throughout this project downtown."
Phase one of the project is expected to be completed by mid-November.
