MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say a report of shots fired in a northeast Manhattan neighborhood was the result of a suicide.

At 6:42 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, officers responded to a report of gunshots at a house on Charolais Lane along Butterfield Road.

A 38-year-old man called authorities to report that shots had been fired in his home and that his fiance, a 48-year-old woman, was injured.

When officers arrived, they discovered the woman deceased as a result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An autopsy as been requested- a procedure police called "common" when someone dies from a gunshot wound. Police list the incident as a suicide by firearm.
