TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ Kansans with low income will have a little extra help paying their utility bills this Summer.

Low Income Energy Assistance Program provides an annual benefit to help qualifying households pay winter heating bills.

Persons with disabilities, older adults, and families with children are the primary groups assisted.

In Winter 2014, nearly 48 thousand households received a benefit of almost 450 dollars.

Households that received a benefit during the regular application period will be issued a benefit of about 74 dollars--those funds are in the process of being dispersed.
