TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the man charged in the fatal hit and run of a recent Seaman High School graduate.

Dustin Leftwich will be in court August 29th.

Prosecutors told the judge they'll need at least that much time to get all their evidence from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Leftwich is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and providing false information for the May 25 death of 18-year-old Brenna Morgart, and an additional charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an incident last summer where authorities say he chased a teen with a vehicle.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Leftwich was also convicted, as a juvenile, of aggravated indecent liberties with a child younger than 14 in 2009.

He is jailed on $1 million bond.
