Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Honors 25 Organizations With Grants

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Two Topeka organizations received large charitable donations.

Casa of Shawnee County and the Arthritis Foundation both received $10,000 from the Prairie Band Casino and Resort.

They were among 25 organizations selected to receive donations this quarter.

In all, the Prairie Band Pottawatomi Nation handed out $76,425.

"The $10,000 will be used to support our recruitment efforts for our court appointed special advocates which provides a voice for abused and neglected children in the Shawnee County court system. And so we will be able to reach out to many more people and expand the number of volunteers that we have and serve more children," Sarah Terwelp, Executive Director, Casa Shawnee County.

Other organizations receiving grants were, Three Rivers, Inc., Lifehouse Child Advocacy, YWCA, Morning Star, Inc., Topeka Blues Society, Museum of the Kansas National Guard, NAMI, Alzheimer's Association, Sertoma Great Topeka Duck Race, American Heart Association, Sunflower State Games, Hospice of Dickerson County, Kaw Valley Chapter, MOAA, Family Service and Guidance Center of Topeka, Friends University Scholarship Fund, American Cancer Association, Kansas Senior Olympics, Kansas Head Start Association, Highland Community College, American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Kansas, Royal Valley Recreation Association, The Center for American Indian Studies, and Mayetta Area Business Association.
