Police Seek Help In Hit-And-Run Case

From Topeka Police:

Police are searching for information about a driver involved in a hit and run accident that took place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 26th.

A group of eight motorcycles were stopped at Croix and Topeka Blvd. when a white Jeep Cherokee with a red pinstripe and a decal in the back window saying “Cherokee Chief” pulled up next to the motorcycles and had a verbal exchange with the motorcycle drivers.

The motorcycles proceeded to go south on Topeka, and turned west on 37th street. The Jeep followed them, and at 37th and Kirklawn the Jeep sped up and cut across the path of the motorcycles, turning into the Wal-Mart parking lot. When the Jeep cut across the motorcycles, the vehicle struck the front of the lead motorcycle, likely resulting in a long black scrape down the driver’s side of the Jeep.

The Jeep then sped through the Wal-Mart parking lot and out of the SE entrance with no attempt to stop.

Anyone with information on the incident, or who may know of this vehicle and its owner, is asked to contact CPL Dana Ortiz at 368-9452 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
