Police Searching For Second Suspect Following Copper Theft

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Officers are still searching for one man involved in an early morning copper theft.

Authorities were called around 2:00 a.m. to the Westar Energy Operations Center on N.W.14th on reports of a theft in progress.

When they arrived, the suspects had already cut the fence and stolen several spools of copper cable from the yard.

Officers were able to catch 43-year-old Jody Oakley as he attempted to flee into a nearby cornfield. Oakley was booked into Shawnee County Jail for theft, criminal trespassing and criminal damage.

They are still searching for the second suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to call detectives at 368-9400 or Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
