TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Police say a 2-year-old girl is now safe and sound after a SWAT team surrounded her mother's home over the weekend.

Police investigated whether or not to issue on Amber Alert for this little girl and decided it didn't meet the Amber Alert criteria.

Over the weekend, a SWAT team surrounded a house on 2600 block SW Valley Brook Lane after a female called the police saying her boyfriend was holding their 2-year-old child inside the home.

"The male at one point locked the female half out of the residence," said Lt. Shane Lind.

When SWAT members stormed the home, they found no one inside.

"Turns out no one was in the house," said Lind.

13 News found out the man police are searching for is Trevor Hughes. Police say he is the biological father of 2-year-old Ambree Hughes.

Ambree's grandfather, Clay Quigley, told 13 News the mother of the child, Alisha Quigley, is in a dispute with Hughes.

Police told us they are not married but legally may have joint custody. As for 2-year-old Ambree, Topeka Police described the situation as "the girl is safe and sound with her mother this morning."

Topeka Police told 13 News they are still looking for Hughes on a warrant from a past incident not related to the weekend standoff.

"The investigation will continue. It's not over because we couldn't find him, its like where is he at?" says Lind.

Court records indicate Hughes was in court on a criminal threat and criminal carrying of a weapon in a complaint filed in may of last year. Our examination of that case shows the last court entry was this past April 20th.

After more than 24 hours, Topeka police have located a missing 2 year old girl but are still searching for the man she was with.

The Topeka Police Department confirmed Sunday evening that 2 year old Ambree has been located and is unharmed and with family members.

On Saturday, officers engaged in a nearly 4 hour standoff in the Topeka Crestview Community.

Topeka police were called near Southwest Shunga Drive and Southwest James around 12:30 p.m. to a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman with a 2 year old daughter inside the home.

They have identified the man as Trevor Hughes.

Officers believed Hughes was not cooperating and would not release the daughter from inside the home.

After four SWAT members gained access inside, it was revealed that neither Hughes nor the daughter were inside.

Officers are still searching for Trevor Hughes
