The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further.
MANHATTAN, KAN. - A report of theft occurring between the 27th of July and the 22nd of August has left a resident with a loss of $2,500.00. Riley County Police responded to a report of larceny in the 12000 block of Anderson Ave, Riley, Kansas where a Black Angus bull was taken without the permission of its owner. Brian Still, 47, of Ogden, Kansas reported the bull missing to police on August 22, 2013. Currently suspects are unknown and officers are investigating.
Riley County Police arrested Inshayel Ballard, 23, of Topeka, Kansas when it became apparent that she was driving with a license in a suspended, cancelled, or revoked status. Ballard was arrested near the intersection of Kimball Ave. and Denison Ave. on August 22, 2013 at approximately 9:00 PM. She was being held on $750.00 bond at the time of this report.
Arrested and still confined for theft was Bryan Magee, 46, of Topeka, Kansas on August 22, 2013 at approximately 9:30 PM after police were alerted by store employees of Best Buy in Manhattan. Magee left the store with 2 laptops totaling approximately $700.00; making no attempt to pay. Magee was released on $2,000.00 bond from Riley County Jail.
Two Manhattan men were arrested on August 23, 2013 at approximately 8:15 PM for various drug offenses following a search warrant of their home. David Duncan, 20, of the 1500 block of College Ave. was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, unlawful use of a telecommunication device, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, no Kansas drug tax stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Duncan was held in lieu of $5,000.00 bond at Riley County Jail and is no longer confined. Also arrested was Morgan Clay, 21, of the same address for the offenses of possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs, or stimulants that are prohibited as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Clay was held on $2,000.00 bond and has since been released. The investigations into the distribution of illegal drugs in Manhattan and Riley County are ongoing.
A citation for minor in possession of alcohol on August 23, 2013 at approximately midnight was issued to Cole Matzke, 20, of Manhattan, Kansas after an incident stemming from a loud noise complaint in the 800 block of Fremont Street in Manhattan. Matzke was also arrested for interference with a law enforcement officer and was held in lieu of $500.00 bond, he is no longer confined.
Issued a citation for minor in consumption of alcohol was Kylar Meyer, 20, of Manhattan, Kansas at approximately midnight on August 23, 2013. Meyer was issued this citation in the 800 block of Fremont Street.
